Week 6: Puzzle Ideation and Finalization of Storyboard
This week we all individually conducted research and came up with ideas for some of the puzzles we could use for our VR experience. We turned to existing escape rooms, imagination, and video games that incorporate puzzles for our inspiration. Several of our teammates also researched existing VR games that we could turn to for ideas, and we ended up voting on one that we could purchase – through the school – and try ourselves to see how we could implement our puzzles naturally within the world of VR. Our team also worked on lore ideation in a similar fashion.
After coming up with ideas individually, our team met to discuss and finalize the layout of the 3 levels/stages within our game. As we worked on the design doc, we chose several simple puzzles that we thought would be feasible and not detract from the beautiful aesthetics of the world. In this, we finalized our level design. The following is an excerpt from our collaborative level design document:
Level 1 - Tutorial/Onboarding
Explore environment:
Parachute + spaceship pod + debris
FRND peeking at player
Voice log → radio transmission: light is good
Apple/food item x 4-5
Player can pick apple
First time - FRND growls
Second time - give apple to FRND + he eats it
FRND points to the twirly root/vine → it starts glowing
Player looks at branch and clicks
FRND pulls it and makes a bridge
Teleportation node appears
Teleport to level 2
→ learn throwing mechanism, learn about interacting with FRND
