Week 12: Assembling our Demo
In preparation for our demo presentation in lab, our team worked to animate the Frend character, polish up our user interactions, and assemble the first stage of our VR application. It was a heavy week, as we encountered more difficulties with the character rig and importing animations into Unity, but we managed to put it all together to have something to show the class. Marie also worked on an animated After Effects intro that will be used as our title screen.
Working with the Frend character has proven to be the most difficult challenged we have faced in this project so far. We encountered issues when rigging and skinning the first time (forcing us to re-visit modifying the model), when adding controls and IK handles to our next attempt at rigging and skinning, and when importing our model from Maya into Unity. Our greatest difficulty so far was in importing Frend into Unity, as every time we did something seemed to go wrong. We're still working on modifying our rig and export settings to make the import flawless, but as of right now we have him in our environment.
Up until this point, every model and animation in our Unity scene has been created by us. For our demo, we also finished modelling all of the environmental models and animations that we needed for our presentation.
